Let’s Embark on a Road Trip Journey
Do you agree that there is something magical about the open road? There’s just something about getting in the car and hitting the road. A successful road trip requires planning and preparation to warrant you get the best of your trip. Let’s go over some tips to ensure a wonderful journey filled with fun and lots of memories.
1.**Research your Destination**
This is the know before you go part: What’s the weather like during your time of travel? What is there to do? What are the best places to visit? Where will I stay? How far of a drive is it? This is a big part of starting to plan your trip.
*When you’re selecting a place to stay, look at the reviews and learn about the surrounding area.
2. **Packing List**
A packing list is fundamental to a successful road trip. There are a few things to consider: duration of your trip, activities planned, medical necessities, etc. Essentials include:
Items to pack that can go in the trunk:
- Clothing: Keep the weather and activities planned in mind. Don’t forget to bring some extra options. My rule of thumb is at least 2 outfits/day.
- Toiletries and personal care items: toothbrush/toothpaste, hair items,
- Necessary medications and a basic first aid kit: You can get a pill box to carry the needed among of prescribed medication and/or vitamins. I also like to take bandages and Tylenol.
Items to keep within reach:
- Electronic devices and chargers: Only bring what you need. If you’re traveling with multiple people, I suggest a car charger with multiple ports.
- Entertainment such as books/audiobooks, music, or podcasts. You can download movies and shows. Interactive games [especially if you’re traveling with kids]: I Spy, License Plate Game (see how many states you can find during the trip). Activity and/or coloring books.
-Snacks and Drinks: I don’t know about you, but food makes me happy; pack a mixture of things that include everyone’s favorite.
*Keep your sips to a limit, you don’t want too many potty breaks.
3. **Car Inspection Prior to Leaving**
You can’t have a successful trip if your car is not ready for it. You also have the option to rent a car, but if you decide to use your car make sure it is in good shape. Before hitting the road, perform a thorough inspection (or let the professionals do it):
- Check tire pressure and tread depth
- Test brakes and lights
- Inspect fluid levels (oil, brake fluid, coolant)
- Replace windshield wipers if necessary
- Verify that your spare tire is in good condition
Pack the essentials within reach, dress comfy, fill your tank and now you’re ready to hit the road. Remember to take breaks along the journey for rest, meals, and a chance for everyone to stretch their legs. You can eliminate extra stops by stretching, eating and taking potty break when you stop for gas.
The recipe to a successful road trip is a combination of careful planning and preparation. Research your destination, make a packing list then pack, inspect your car and you’re ready to hit the road. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. Safe travels!
